Tom Ravenscroft founded Enabling Enterprise in 2009 while teaching Business and Enterprise at Cardinal Pole School in Hackney, United Kingdom. Through his teaching, he realized that getting students to work in teams and giving them ownership over long-term projects instilled confidence and developed valuable transferable skills. He started to implement a more practical, project-based way of learning in his own lessons and then formalized this enterprising philosophy through programs that could be more widely distributed.
As Chief Executive Officer of Enabling Enterprise, Mr. Ravenscroft has led the growth of the organization from a single class to over 60,000 enrolled students in the last year. Enabling Enterprise now works in partnership with over 110 employers and 230 schools to build eight critical enterprise skills (or "life skills"): working in teams, leading, creativity, problem-solving, presenting, listening and understanding, aiming high, and staying positive.
Mr. Ravenscroft’s work has been recognized with the Teach First Excellence Award. He was also the 2009 UK Entrepreneurship Teacher of the Year. In 2010, Mr. Ravenscroft won a “Future 100” award as one of the top 10 up-and-coming social entrepreneurs in the UK. In 2014, Enabling Enterprise was awarded “Education Partnership of the Year” in the Education Investor awards.
Mr. Ravenscroft earned a Bachelor’s degree in Economics and Management from the University of Oxford.
